INTRODUCTION:
Indian society is a treasure trove of knowledge, gained over thousands of years and manifested in the form of arts, literature, traditions, customs, languages, architecture, etc. The New Education Policy emphasizes the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) to promote cultural awareness, holistic learning, and problem-solving skills. Nurturing knowledge and appreciation for India’s rich heritage among nursing students of the institution, the institutional Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has recommended the establishment of an Indian Knowledge Systems Cell (IKSC). Accordingly, the college has constituted an Indian Knowledge System Cell (IKSC) in August 2024.

OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS OF IKS CELL
- To organize seminars, workshops, and lecture series on various aspects of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara (Indian Knowledge Traditions) to disseminate knowledge about India’s rich heritage among the students.
- To initiate the activities related to health, wellness, and consciousness studies.
- To promote the activities related to Ancient Art, Tradition, Indian Culture, Yoga for holistic development of the students.
- To integrate the study of IKS into relevant academic programs.
- To collaborate with academic institutions and research centres focused on IKS to develop innovative learning resources.
- To promote interdisciplinary dialogue and encourage teachers’ research projects related to IKS.
- Facilitate the library with resources on IKS for the benefit of students and faculty.
- Promote the incorporation of IKS and value education in its outreach programs.
- To organize Faculty Development Programs to equip existing teachers with the knowledge and skills to effectively teach IKS subjects.
- Explore the possibilities to facilitate funding of various projects and develop mechanisms to undertake research.
- Systematic and scientific documentation of traditional knowledge and practices to preserve them for future generations.
- Make Policy recommendations wherever required for the promotion of IKS.
- To develop the Skill Development Course/ Certificate Course on Indian Knowledge System.
ACTIVITIES UNDER IKS CELL
PRESERVING ARTS, CULTURE AND TRADITION
- Emphasise on use of Indian Languages and Regional Languages. Conduction of various events on these languages.
- Celebration of various festivals of Indian Culture in the institutional premises.
- Conduction of programs based on regional traditions and folks.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Alternative medicine or Traditional medicine is defined as a medical treatment that uses natural, holistic procedures to manage health. Alternative medicine aims to treat the entire being—the body, mind, and spirit. The Benefits of Alternative Medicine are:

Organize special lectures about the traditional medicines for staff and students.
Create a Medicinal Garden with number of Indian medicinal plants, each identified with a QR code for easy access to detailed information.
Yoga is vital for students because it effectively reduces stress and improves academic performance, mental well-being, and self-regulation. Research has shown that yoga has numerous beneficial effects on students on multiple levels.
