OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT
“Understand the need by being modest: the key of nursing art”

Nursing foundation is the basic from which all nurses learn and grow. Nursing is the art of caring and nurturing the ill. Not only the ill, but their family members and those in the community also. Culminating enthusiasm along with alertness and readiness to learn must be the basic attitude of nursing. For that we, the Nursing Foundation Department of Choithram College of Nursing instill the concept of holistic care from the beginning. From there our young nurses learn to form the habit of nursing care to individuals in all stages of development. The lab is equipped with adequate mannequins, simulation, equipment and instruments to successfully consolidate classroom as well as lab teaching.

Moreover, to this, the department enable our nursing students to understand the professional ethics and dedication firstly and then only allow practicing the skills which forms the crux of nursing practice.

B.Sc. Nursing first year students are motivated to practice the profession with utmost accurate and updated way that deemed in the global nursing; so, our young nurses can work shoulder to shoulder.

OBJECTIVES

The utmost objective of the department is training of the nursing students to make sure the safety of patients to whom they serve. We aim to enable them to acquire and master in cognitive, affective and psycho motor domains which are essential and core in nursing. The predefined objectives are as follows:

  • Describe the concept of health, illness and health care agencies.
  • Describe values, code of ethics and professional conduct for nurses.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain the standard.
  • Explain the uses, format and steps of nursing process and use in nursing care.
  • Practice techniques of recording and reporting.
  • Perform physical examination.
  • Perform all nursing procedures with quality standards.
  • Recognize various machinery and equipment in health care systems.
  • Describe and practice the principles and techniques of infection control and biomedical waste management in supervised clinical settings.
  • Acquire expertise in drug administration and recording.
  • Demonstrate patient care skills. in all hospital areas.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

1. THEORY AND CLINICAL TEACHING WITH MODERN MEASURES IN THE FIELD.

The students gain momentum in learning culture with various new approaches that are synchronized with new gang tech in education as well as in medicine.

2. SIMULATION BASED CLINICAL LEARNING

Our students get meaningful and utmost quality clinical experience with the use of moderate to high fidelity mannequins and highly skillful faculty in the lab.

3. EXPERT SESSIONS

We overview our students with new approaches and applications about all practices especially infection control and aseptic training expert classes that are used in the hospital

4. PRACTICAL ORIENTED PROJECT

This is also another activity meant to make our students all rounded in all related areas of Nursing Foundation. During the project, various methodologies such as quizzes, group discussion and dance forms are applied.

5. OSCE

Our students are given the opportunity to learn and assess themselves by adopting the OSCE teaching pedagogy. Teachers apply best theory and clinical evidence-based practices to make the sessions more effective as a leaning measure

6. TEACHER ASSISTED LEARNING

This is a unique approach adopted to maintain the learning and assessment culture by utilizing one-to-one interaction with teacher and student.
